History of the Ministry

Bahraini media witnessed its first breakthrough with the establishment of radio in the 1950s, followed by the launch of the first official television broadcast in 1973, which represented a qualitative shift in the history of national media. In 1976, the Bahrain News Agency was established, becoming the official source of national news and official activities, thus completing the modern media system in the Kingdom.Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Media responsibilities were initially under the Ministry of Information and Culture, until a royal decree was issued in July 2010 establishing the Information Affairs Authority as an independent entity responsible for managing media affairs in the Kingdom. In 2014, the authority was reorganized to become the Ministry of Information Affairs, with integrated responsibilities including radio, television, and the Bahrain News Agency, in addition to regulating the press and publishing.

The Kingdom has been keen to continuously update its media structures to keep pace with technological developments. Decree No. (9) of 2024 was issued to reorganize the Ministry of Media to enhance its role in the next phase. This comes as a continuation of the leadership’s approach to developing state institutions and ensuring that the media plays its role as a key partner in the process of sustainable construction and development.
